Sergen Yalçın

Biography

Yalçın (born 1972 in Istanbul) is widely considered as one of the best Turkish players of all times. He began football at Beşiktaş JK youth system in 1991 and quickly became renowned for his skill and creativity. His first spell at the senior level saw him score 46 goals in 158 games – no mean feat for a midfielder. Sergen Yalçın left the Black Eagles in 1996 for brief stints with Istanbulspor, Siirt Jetpaspor, Fenerbahçe, Trabzonspor and Galatasaray. The clever left-footed player returned to Beşiktaş JK in 2002 to lead them to the 2003 Turkish First Division title. During his six seasons with the Club, he won 3 First Division, 1 Turkish Cup and 2 Presidency Cup trophies. In 2003-04 Champions League Group Stage, Beşiktaş JK shocked the world by winning 2-0 away to mighty Chelsea, both goals courtesy of Sergen Yalçın. He made 53 appearances for the Turkish national team at various levels. Yalçın will always be remembered for his silky skills and spectacular goals. He is currently a football analyst in Turkey.
