İlhan Mansız

Biography

A pacey forward with a knack for finding the back of the net, Mansız (born 1975 in Germany) played for SV Lenzfried, Kempten, Augsburg, FC Cologne, Kuşadası and Samsunspor before joining Beşiktaş JK in 2001. In his first season, he netted 21 goals and shared the Turkish Super League scoring title with Galatasaray’s Arif Erdem. The best goal of his career came in the 2002 World Cup quarter final against Senegal. He came on as a substitute for Hakan Şükür in the 67th minute, and netted a golden goal in the 94th minute to send Turkey through to the last four of the competition, in which they ended up taking 3rd place. In the 3rd place game İlhan Mansız assisted Hakan Şükür to score the fastest goal ever in a World Cup finals match. In 2003, he was snapped up by the Vissel Kobe football club of Japan but never reached to his full potential there due his injury. After his Japan journey, he signed a contract with Bundesliga side Hertha BSC but because of his recurring injury, never had a chance to play. Mansız returned to Turkey to join Ankaragücü SK, where he ended his career in 2007.
