Vedat Okyar

Biography

Vedat Okyar (1945 – 2009) was born in Bursa City . He played for Bursaspor before joining Beşiktaş JK in 1968. During his 8 seasons with the Black Eagles, Okyar primarily featured as a defensive midfielder but still managed to score 21 goals in 253 matches. A club captain of Beşiktaş JK between 1975 and 1976, he earned 33 international caps with the Turkish national side. After retiring from football, Okyar became a sports journalist. He died of cancer in Istanbul on 20 July 2009 at the age of 64.
