Drawing inspiration from our glorious history and strength from our beloved nation, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk launched the Turkish War of Independence in Samsun City on May 19th, 1919.
This date has gone down in history not only as the day of Turkish nation’s liberation struggle, but also as the day the foundations of Turkish Republic were first laid.
And in 1935,after a proposal made by one of Beşiktaş founders Ahmet Fetgeri Aşeni, Ataturk, the greatest Beşiktaş supporter of all times, dedicated May 19 to the Turkish nation as “ Youth and Sports Day “. Today, it is being celebrated by the Turkish youth with great enthusiasm and pride from generation to generation.
Following in the footsteps of Atatürk, who once said, "All my hope lies in the Turkish youth," Beşiktaş have made it a principle to equip our young people not only with sports but also with morality, character, and love of country. This high spirit and faith carried by our youth will guide the future of our club and our country.
On this day, we commemorate the Founder of Turkish Republic Ataturk and all our martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for us, with profound respect and gratitude. Their memory remains etched in our hearts as a symbol of bravery, honor, and ultimate sacrifice.
