Starting without their key players Atiba Hutchinson, Gökhan Töre, Demba Ba and looking tired from Thurday’s Europa League match against Liverpool, Beşiktaş fell behind 1-0 on a 19th-minute Kaan Kanak goal. In the remainder of the first half, the Eagles pressed for the equaliser and came close with Olcay Şahan on 43 minutes, but his effort was cleared by Kamil Ahmet Çörekçi on the goalline.
Beşiktaş concentrated solely on offence after the restart, leaving large gaps at the back, but some outstanding saves by the keeper Cenk Gönen, who let the ball pass between his legs during the Eskişehir's goal, prevented the home side from furthering their lead. As the game progressed, the Eagles went all out to bring the scores back on level terms, however, the stubborn Eskişehir defence stood their ground and sent Beşiktaş back to Istanbul empty-handed.
