Black Eagles controlled most of the play and came close to breaking the impasse on numerous occasions in the first half, but thanks to a 44th-minute penalty-kick from Lomano Lua-Lua, it was the visitors who would go back into the dressing room at the interval with a 1-0 lead. In search of an equaliser, Beşiktaş, who were playing mostly with reserves, pinned Çaykur Rizespor into their own half in the second 45 minutes, only to fail to convert their chances.
