The two teams staged an offensive football in the first half, and it was the visitors Beşiktaş who came close to breaking the deadlock on 30 minutes, but Cenk Tosun’s bicycle kick from the 6-yard line hit the crossbar and went out. Three minutes before the interval, the home side would take the lead through a header from Alexandu Epureanu off a Marcio Mossoro corner-kick and then carry that one-goal advantage into the second half.
After the restart, the Black Eagles pushed all out for the equaliser, and reached their aim in the 63th minute when Demba Ba levelled the matters with a screamer from the inside the box. The goal appeared to boost Beşiktaş’ morale as Kerim Frei slided home Jose Sosa’s deflected shot twelve minutes later to fire them on top 2-1. Black Eagles endured some late pressure from their hosts after Pedro Franco and İsmail Köybaşı left them shorthanded with yellow cards, but the nine-men Beşiktaş stood firm in the closing minutes to collect all three points.
