Except a 40th-minute header from Almeida, which hit the bar and went out, the Eagles failed to create any serious chances in the first 45 minutes of their Europa League playoff round second leg and were held to a goalless draw at half time.
However, they showed their true class at the outset of the second half with a pair of back-to back goals. After Almeida’s sliced header found the back of the net on 51 minutes, Oğuzhan doubled Beşiktaş’s lead with a splendid solo effort only two minutes later. The Norwegians came close to equalising a number of times late on, but the Eagles managed to weather the storm to run out 2-0 winners.
