The Liverpool-conquerors got off to a flying start and put the Balıkesirspor defence on the backfoot with several early chances but had to wait until Demba Ba’s 35th-minute penalty for the lead. It was the Senegalese striker’s league-leading 14th goal of the season. The Eagles carried that one-goal advantage into the interval.
With 5 minutes played in the second half, Zec stepped up and silenced the non-stop cheering Beşiktaş crowd at the Osmanlı Stadium as he restored the parity for the visitors. However, the Eagles new addition Daniel Opare, after being set-up by Demaba Ba’s neat pass, fired Beşiktaş back in front from the corner of the 6-yard box few moments later. As the game went on, the Eagles began to show signs of tiredness from their Europa League victory over Liverpool. The bottom-club Balıkesirspor took advantage of the situation with late penalty goal from Vargas and were happy to run out with a point.
