Beşiktaş post first Champions League group win after thriller in Izmit City

Beşiktaş Mogaz vs. Alingsas HK 28:26

The winless Black Eagles took the floor at the Recep Topaloğlu Sports Hall in Izmit City with a lineup of Yunus Özmusul, Ivan Nincevic, Vedran Zrnic, Erwin Jan Feuchtmann Perez, Predrag Dacevic, Ozan Arifoğlu and Tolga Özbahar who were determined to bring Beşiktaş their first group stage win. Cheered on by vocal home crowd, they struggled in the early going and were behind most of the first half as the experienced Swedish Champions, who were also eyeing their first victory in the campaign, managed to take a 15-13 lead into the interval.

However, it was a different story in the second half. With critical saves by the keeper Yunus and a string of goals from Tolga, Dacevic and Nincevic, Beşiktaş Mogaz erased the deficit and surged ahead 18-16 at the 6th minute mark that forced an Alignsas time out. The Swedish visitors managed to cut the deficit after the timeout, and the teams were level at 20-20 with 15:00 left in the regulation time, but Beşiktaş refused to slip this one away and went on to build a four-goal cushion entering the final four minutes. Alignas pushed hard to get back into the game down the stretch, but it was too little and too late as the Black Eagles held on to pick up win number one in Group B.
