Late goal forces Black Eagles to a draw in Europa League opener

Beşiktaş 1-1 Asteras Tripolis

In their Group C opening match, the Eagles dropped two precious points at the Istanbul Ataturk Olympic Stadium tonight. Due to continuous rain and a heavy pitch which made the ball control and fluent passing game difficult, Beşiktaş used long-range efforts to get on the scoresheet. This tactic paid off handsomely as Gökhan Töre found the bottom corner of the net from outside the box on 35 minutes. The men in Black and White had enough chances to stretch that one-goal lead in the remainder of the first half, but feeling a bit complacent, they managed to rifle their shots over the cross-bar.

The Greek visitors looked more attacking in the second 45 minutes, but Beşiktaş kept the game under control and appeared to be walking away with 3 points until the 84th minute when Facunda Parra finished off a Tripolis counter-attack perfectly and levelled  the scores at 1-1. The remaining minutes saw Beşiktaş trying desperately for the winner, only to come up empty-handed in the end. The Black Eagles travel to Tottenham for their second group match.
