Beşiktaş back on tract

Black Eagles return to winning ways with a 3-2 home win over Gençlerbirliği

Looking to end to their four-game slide, the Eagles dominated the early stages, but it was the visitors who drew first blood with Tum tapping the ball in from close range after Azofeifa’s deflected pass found him unmarked at the far post on 22 minutes. Beşiktaş’s efforts for a quick equaliser were constantly thwarted by the resolute Gençlerbirliği defence as they managed to hold on to their one-goal lead going into the dressing room at interval.

The Black and Whites started the second half as they did the first and went on to restore parity after just three minutes when Quaresma beat goalkeeper Ramazan with a brilliant curled shot. It took nine minutes for the high-flying Eagles to get their noses in front. Ekrem Dağ whipped in a cross from the left goal-line for Almedia to head home his 8th league goal of the season. But the stubborn visitors levelled the things again in the 70th minute through Azofeifa. Gençlerbirliği’s joy would last only two minutes, however, because another Portuguese, Manuel Fernandes pounced on an uncleared rebound to give Beşiktaş the lead for good.
