Istanbul rivals battle to goalless draw at Inonu

Galatasaray started out the better side and enjoyed most of the early possessions, but after the first 20 minutes the visitors eased off the gas and Beşiktaş began to apply their own pressure. Black Eagles came close to breaking the deadlock on 24 minutes when Almedia’s shot hit the post before going out. Seven miutes later, Simao was even closer with a screamer from inside the box with keeper Muslera nowhere near. The remaining minutes saw Galatasaray defend well as the first half ended scoreless.
 
Beşiktaş pinned their opposition into their own area for most of the 2nd half and had numerous chances to take the lead while Galatasaray defence and goalkeeper worked hard to keep it level. After Almedia had a goal ruled out for a foul in the closing minutes, Black Eagles allowed their cross-town rivals to escape with a point.
