Beşiktaş 79, Alanya Bld. 41

In Week 16 of the Turkish Women’s Basketball League, the Lady Eagles hosted Alanya Belediyesi at the Akatlar Arena on Sunday and pummelled their visitors 79-41.

Thanks to Ebru Torun’s hot-hand, Alanya Belediyesi got off to a better start and opened up a 7-1 lead three minutes quarter, only to see Castro Marques spark an 8-2 spurt that tied the game at 9 with 3:07 to go in the first quarter. Then Iveta Salkauske and Kelly Santos combined efforts to give Beşiktaş Cola Turka an eight point, 19-11, advantage, going into the second frame.
At the outset of the second, Beşiktaş Cola Turka continued to build its lead, pushing the margin into double digits, 23-13, on a pair of jumpers by Salkauske and Tuğba Taşcı. As the game rolled on, Yasemin Horasan began to make her presence felt in the painted area behind a number of layups, which would help the Lady Eagles stretch their cushion to 35-16 with less than 4:00 left in the half. The teams fell into a scoring drought during the remaining minutes, but the Women in Black and White were still up by nineteen, 37-18, at the break.
After Esra Şencebe drilled a three-pointer to start the third, Tuğba Taşcı followed with a flurry of unanswered points as the gap between the two sides grew to twenty-four, 47-23, just three minutes into the quarter. The visitors tried to rally back but were unable to contain Salkauske, who kept nailing threes from all angles. In the closing stages, Esra Aytaç got in the act with her own 3-point shots to create an insurmountable lead, 62-34, for Beşiktaş Cola Turka, entering the final quarter of play.
Yasemin Horasan and Gülşah Çelebi traded buckets to start the fourth quarter before the Lady Eagles’ advantage ballooned to as many as 30 points, 66-35, with 6:08 remaining. From that point on, the home team looked comfortable with the score and turned to its bench, but this move did not slow the Ladies in Black and White down as the margin extended to 73-39 with 3:00 to play. Until the final buzzer, Beşiktaş Cola Turka continued to pound its visitors with Esra Aytaç to sail to a lopsided 79-41 home-court win.
