With its magnificient soccer in the first match of UEFA League, Beşiktaş 3-1 defeated Athletic Bilbao with the goals of Ali Güneş in the 26th minute, John Carew in the 63rd minute and İbrahim Akın in the 89th minute.

Beşiktaş was the dominant side throughout the match which it played with 32.000 supporters filling the BJK İnönü Stadium completely.  In the 26th minute of the match ruled by German refree Florian Meyer, Ali Güneş met the ball came with the pass of John Carew in the penaly area, and changed the score to 1-0 in favor of Beşiktaş.  In the 49th minute, Athletic Bilbao equalized the score 1-1 with the goal of Santiago Ezquerro. John Carew, who played  perfect soccer in the match put a show on in the 63rd minute.  The Norwegian striker sent the ball that came from Emre Aşık to opponent nets with a magnificent kick and helped his team go 2-1 ahead.   İbrahim Akın facing the opponent goalkeeper Lafuente in the 89th minute sent the ball  by the goalkeeper and into the net just. He proclamed the 3-1 victory of Beşiktaş.
